Marcus Thrower, 46, of Flint was working at Top Hat Auto Wash on Fenton and Hemphill roads at 1:50 p.m. when he was struck, according to police.

Thrower was hand drying the passenger side of a 2008 Saturn Vue when the SUV moved forward, dragging the worker about 50 feet, according to a Flint police news release.

The driver was an 87-year-old Grand Blanc man, according to police.

Thrower suffered critical internal injuries and the driver was interviewed and released at the scene, according to police.

Neither alcohol nor speed were believed to be factors in the crash.

An employees at the car wash who was drying vehicles alongside Thrower believed the driver accidentally hit the gas instead of the brakes.
