Wash Away Thirst

NORCROSS, Ga., (August 1, 2011) - Car washes all over the country — including Mr. Clean Car Wash in Norcross — have joined a cause with hopes of providing 5 million days of drinking water to villages in Guatemala, Kenya and India by December 31.

After seeing the water epidemic first-hand during a trip to Guatemala, Jim Dudley wanted to see how he could use his handful of car washes back in Atlanta to help others. So last September, he started donating enough money with every car that came through his car washes to provide about 350,000 days of drinking water for people continents away.

The program won't solve the water problem that affects nearly 1 billion people, but it will help. Instead of sending crates of drinking water from the U.S., Dudley's Wash Away Thirst campaign has partnered with Wasrag, a Rotary group that builds wells and provides filters to harvest rainwater.

There are nearly 100 participating car washes as far north as New York and Connecticut and as far west as Texas.

And it all came from a single question Dudley asked himself: "If all I had was a successful car wash business, is that what I wanted to be remembered for?"

Now, Dudley's car wash business is making a difference. And, as it turns out, a lot of his colleagues want to help, too.

Thanks for posting Jimmy. We are beginning to get a lot of interest from the media in our campaign. Also, in the last week we've had car washes from CA, CO, FL, & Canada express interest in joining.
