We inroduced credit cards at our tunnel nearly three years ago. Credit cards account for 17% of sales with an average ticket if somewhere between $17 and $19, or ouble our $ per car average. However, it was not the 40-50% promised me by a salesperson for a computer company who made this claim regarding the installation of their cash management system.

Due to our wash volumes on peak days, we installed a dedicated DSL line strictly for the temrinal which gives us a receipt in 3 seconds vs. 10 seconds for dial up. This gives the ability to conduct a credit card transaction nearly as fast as cash ones.

I'm in an affluent area, CC sales account for 65% of money brought in by the IBA. I installed CC on my SS bays last November, they are climbing and have surpassed paper money brought in.

Here ya go. This is self serve income statistics. This is the Feb stats. The system was installed late November 2009 so it's just a few months in, and credit card usage seems to be climbing.

As percentage of SS bay revenue:

coins 60.3%
bills 17.8%
credit/debit 21.8%

The jury is still out on whether the system will increase overall bay net revenues. I plan to do some ciphering at the six month and one year mark.
