Lustra vs Simonize?

Our service/chemical provider is switching from Lustra to Simonize products. We are going along with this switch. Any comments on which product line gives the best wash?

Never used Lustra, but I hear good things. Have used Simoniz and was quite pleased. Ultimately it comes down to service and support, much like who has the best equipment question.

Is this service company the PDQ distributor? I am surprised to see one getting away from PDQ’s recommended chemical supplier.

I worked at a double bay Laser during high school and the first few years of “college” and I now sell Lustra. On a Laser here is my preferred set up:

Soap 1: The Option (In Texas we put the Alkaline on first)
Soap 2: The Answer
Tri Color: Low Ph Polish Raspberry (If you are not using this you are really missing out)
Drying Agent: Pearl Sealant & Drying Agent (A ton of bang for your buck with this one)
Super Sealant: LustraShield

I am curious to what your set up is? I have nothing to gain by you staying with Lustra, I am obviously bias towards them. I do really believe in their products, and the company is owned and operated by some really great honest people.

I live in a city with over 200 Lasers and have yet to see one with Simonize hooked up to it, they do have a ton of tunnel business in my area though.

Thanks for your replies. We have 3 PDQ touch-free laser washes, which all use Lustra. We plan to change over one bay at a time and watch the results. We've had many complaints about a slight film on some vehicles, especially black colored trucks & cars. I'm hoping Simoniz will be able to cut through this film and product a better shine.

Hopefully there is a rep from the company that can help you. A slight film might indicate that a dan foss valve might be stuck open for the clear coat, and that is coming on with another product or rinse. However the first thing I would check would be the water quality to make sure you are using soft water. Did it always leave a slight film? Has anything in the wash programming changed? Soap heater working? This would be the job for your rep to find out. The last resort would be to try a different chemical, especially if this is something that just started happening. I will ask again what is your set up as far as soaps go, are you using 2 high ph or 1 low, 1 high? When I say try a different chemical, I mean another Lustra product they have several different products that work well in different cleaning conditions, you just need to find the one that works at your wash. With a little more information I could make some suggestions. Hope this helps.

We do have service reps that monitor our soaps/titrations and equipment. We use RO water for the rinse cycles, our soap heaters are working properly. You do raise a good point regarding the clear coat valve being stuck open. We will need to check that out. Thanks.
