Local IBA giving 15c off per gallon with wash
Instead of dropping his wash price from $5, to $4, or to $3 like all the other IBA's have in my town, this one dropped the price of his gas. Pretty creative. You have to buy the $7/ultimate wash (menu=$5, $6, $7) and have a 30 gallon limit.
We use to do that at our full serve. I live two blocks from this site and I've only seen 4 cars in the wash, total, the last 4 years. If I had a wash that wasn't making any money I'd be giving away washes to sell more fuel. It's a nice, Kangaroo station that has never been busy.

I saw a Kangaroo doing this exact same thing in Cartersville, GA. New marketing strategy I guess. I personally think it's a good strategy if marketed well. People are a lot more price sensitive with gas than car washing in my opinion.
I have about 30 customers doing the same thing. Some give 30 cents with a $13 wash.
Wow, I can see the logic...15c-30c off of gas is a tangible discount.
This strategy has been around for years.
I have several clients who are getting excellent results discounting the price of gas with purchase of a car wash at the pumps.
Imagine that 5 or 6 years ago, I proposed this concept to someone owning a chain of gas/c-stores and they looked at me like I was nuts.
It can be a good way to sell more car washes.
However, don't expect much if you intent to offer a nickel or dime a gallon with some touch-less that doesn't clean well.
I also have a client who hit ground with an express wash with discount gasoline but no conventional convenience store. Out of the box over 40 percent of customers bought gas.
People buy gas every day.
