Free dash wipes
Just wondering how many of you offer a free dash wipe cloth with a wash for the customer. Was thinking about adding it on. I am a exterior only wash and get asked a lot if I have a dash wipe they have. Those of you who are doing it where did you purchase them and what is the cost per car?
Replies
We offer them only on request and then we give them out with a wrning not to turn the wheel while going through the wash. When we were handing them out to every customer, we found ourselves having problems with people jumping rollers and even the track itself.
While we verbally tell them hands of the wheel when loading them, have signs throughout the tunnel and give handouts that tell them hands off the wheel, people use the wipe cloth on the wheel, forgetting and inadvertently turning the wheel.
Wipes I have found can also be problematic in the winter time when people are wearing heavy winter coats, sit too close to the wheel and then strain forward to wipe the dash, again turning the wheel withiout thinking. Some also will also unwittingly put their foot on the brake while wiping.
Its a nice feature that helps to differentiate your car wash from others, but they are not as harmless as they seem.
We give them a wonder wafer with the $10 wash and a wafer and microfiber towel(40c-Sam's) in the $12 wash. I have window cleaner available after the wash free.
we offer drums of courtsey towels with free spray bottles with glass cleaner at entrance and exit ends.
WE offer free moist towel to every customer. We get them from Kingofrags.com
i have found they are the cheapest. We have a bucket at the end of the wash to collect them, then wash them that night. We have had a a small problem with people driving off with them, but they are only about $.15 each and we get multiple use out of them. I hear about once or twice a day that the rag is why they like to use our wash.
We resumed offerring free wipes about three years ago. We had previously given out AA cleaner & protectant sample packs but had to stop for lack of availability. We purchase dry towels and moisten them ourselves.
Every able body in the vehicle gets one-the adults usually tackle the front aggressively which motivates the kids to follow suit. My shtick is whomever gets their the dirtiest gets a pass next time.
Cost is about .03/each; tons of positive feedback; occasional customer refuses; never had a problem jumping rail; occasional horn blast or wiper cycle which no longer startles the crew.
Overall, very happy with the results.
