take up drum vs. take up sprocket

I was wondering if any one new if there is a advantage to using a take up sprocket instead of a take up drum, and the same is there a advantage to using a take up drum? I had talked with one operator in my area and he used a take up sprocket and it kept the chain more centered in the track. Is this the only advantage? I have always used a take up drum so any opinions would be appreciated.

I think he summed it up pretty well.

We have exit sprockets with Belanger and it works well. They do wear out eventually and need replacement.

I think keeping the chain more centered is really a sprockets only advantage. Both drums and sprockets wear and need replaced every so often...trouble with sprockets is if you don't change them when they really need it and let them go, the worn teeth will tear your chain apart.
