FL Water Certification Program
GA and NC have both passed legislation protecting car washes during a bad drought. See this link for NC's latest update... http://www.ncpcwa.com/
Is there anyone working on something like this in FL? If not, does anyone want to begin working toward this? I am willing to help.

About a year to a year and a half ago, after GA and NC went through this process, we had the same idea. We contacted and met with several local agencies including the JEA who is the local water and electrical monopoly in Jacksonville. We offered a type of voluntary self regulation plan where car washes could be certified as responsible users of water. They said that they were too busy and didn't have the manpower for even this minimal effort due to the fact that car washes are such a small consumer of water compared to things like golf courses. Also, with wash volumes down as much as they were in 2009, I don't think that you are going to find a receptive audience from other car wash operators statewide. Unfortunately, people will probably not be receptive to the idea until it's too late.
Water is a big issue, and we are hearing it creep up on the legislative side with the water wars between FL, AL, and GA as well as Central Florida's plan to draw an extra 280 million gallons per day from the St. Johns River which flows through Jacksonville. The Southwest Water Management District in Tampa already has imposed a residential and charity car wash ban which is good for the professional washes.
