social media experience

I am very seriously thinking that social media might be a way of expanding my car wash clientel.
Anybody here done an extensive website-facebook-twitter promotion.
would really like to hear from some experience on this. I have an idea and it would all be geared around face book and twitter with a new name and brand that would be interesting to the local neighborhood car buff.
