Sounds like it's not building pressure. Look around the pump and the fittings from it to the tank for leaks.

renee emailed me the question "so reason for motor not shutting off?"

Like I said, it sounds like it's not building pressure. If it can't build pressure, it won't shut off.

will an air compressor build pressure if the check valve is stuck open?

reply by renee 7 months ago

the pump was bad. we replaced it. but now we can't get air out of hoses. any suggestion?

Is the compressor building pressure and shutting off?

reply by renee 7 months ago

no, it's not shutting off. we now replaced regulator. still too much air . what to do???????????????

Is the compressor building pressure? The contactor for the motor could be stuck.

okay. let's go back. this is our first self serve car wash. we have no clue. we bought it for our son , who is currently in Afghanistan.
there was water in air tank. so we replaced it. after replacing it ,the motor won't stop. so came to conclusion that pump was bad, that's why motor kept on running. so we replaced pump and motor shut off. now there is was lot of air coming out and no soap. so we replaced regulator. now there is soap coming out, but no foam liquid, just a lot of air thru foam brush. what do we do?
thank you all for your response.

You've probably turned the air pressure up to the foam brush too high.

If the compressor isn't shutting off, there's still an issue to deal with. There is or should be a gauge on it to tell you the pressure in the tank.

Replacing the tank because there was water in it was a complete waste of money. There is a drain valve in the bottom to let the water out. It's normal for water to condense out of the air.

You might be better off calling someone local to you who has a car wash and asking for help.

I am not sue we are all using the same terminology. You replaced a "Regulator" is that the "pressure" switch that shuts off the compressor when the pressure reaches a cretian limit, or another regulator in the air line regulating the air coming out of the tank?

Not sure what you hv done so far. Any chance The pump is now running backward?

reply by MEP1 7 months ago

It would still make pressure if it's running backwards.

I hadn't thought of the "regulator" being the pressure switch, but in any case I doubt the person will get this problem solved over a forum.

problem is solved. thank you all.

Care to elaborate? I'm curious what was actually wrong.

reply by renee 6 months ago

don't know. we played with the hoses that is connected at tank and it started working just fine. by the way we didn;t replace air compressor tank, it was pressure tank.

reply by MEP1 6 months ago

That's probably the bladder tank on the foam brush system. So the pump that wouldn't shut off was probably the foam brush pump and not the air compressor.
