Marilu Henner Health Makeover

My wife and I are on week 4 of Marilu's 30 day health makeover. It's a program of healthy eating that excludes dairy products, red meat, refined sugar, bleached flour and processed foods and includes lots of fresh veggies, proper food combining, fruit, and substitutes for banned stuff like rice milk for cow's milk.

It was rough at first. Apparently the pallet gets so used to strong flavors of sweet and salty that it takes time to cleanse it so you can taste properly again. The menu gets better as the weeks progress. Lots of fish (which I now like), steamed veggies, whole grains, and even peanut butter cookies! Overall I now feel great with much more energy. I wake up easier and sleep better. I've had a few freakouts where I've eaten poorly, but I feel so sick afterwards that I'm reluctant to veer off track again.

I'm going to weigh myself now, but last week I had lost about 11 lbs, which got me down to 10 lbs above my high school weight!

I'd recommend this plan to anyone who needs a boost to their health. Get support from your spouse if possible, because there's alot of trips to the grocery store and a decent amount of meal preparation. But one plus is the dishes are easy to wash...no sticky gunk and they practically rinse clean.

Update; I'm comfortably wearing my size 33" waist jeans at work today! I guess all the walking we did in Disney negated the effects of the rich foods we ate!

I have a bad habit of eating only once a day, and I tend to eat a lot then, and too often fast food. There's a restaurant on my way home that has healthy meals, and I've noticed that their meals are filling and I have no trouble making it to dinner the next evening. I checked the nutrition values, and it's less than 1,500 calories for the whole meal, low in fat and sugar. I'm going to become their Jared Fogle (except for losing 425 pounds - I'd be happy with 5% of that).

You've gotta start with a good breakfast in the morning! Just keep it simple. It really starts your metabolism up.
