Spyware scam

I'm using Windows XP and have been getting popup balloons warning of spyware infection, internet attacks, etc. My screen display also changed to a warning screen of spyware infecting my PC. Top all this off with Explorer opening a new window advertising an anti-spyware program called PCProtection Center 2008.

In my opinion this is a scam. You buy the software and bingo! the problem is solved.

I emailed this PCProtectionCenter and told them to give me directions how to remove THEIR spyware from my computer. I received an email of apology and directions how to remove their spyware.

I told my wife about this and she told me she had a similar experience although she went ahead and purchased the software. When she looked at her credit card transactions, she saw they charged her for three separate transactions. She had the charges withdrawn.

Just wanted to pass this on.

Don't use internet explorer especially internet explorer 6. Internet Explorer has security issues and windows well I won't go into that.

Try Google's New Browser "Chrome" or Firefox

I use firefox with good results. I also use the freeware programs spybot search & destroy, zone alarm firewall, and avast antivirus- They work as well as any subscription service I have used in the past, IMO. But I am not a tried & true techno weenie like our webmaster, perhaps he has some input on those programs. I hate Norton.

I might like Norton if it wasn't so resource-hungry and intrusive.
